The first thing you'll see when you reach Dr. Bob's Home is the twelve stone and wooden
steps that lead up to the front porch. To the right of the porch rests the massive stone
monument that is inscribed with Dr. Bob and Anne Smith's name. To many visitors, the steps
and stone plaque symbolize the foundation of A.A..
As you enter the home, you may immediately sense that you have stepped into a special place.
You may feel enveloped by a sense of welcoming peace; by a sense of having coming home
after a long journey. As you move through the home, you may feel drawn into a different
time and place as you ponder how Dr. Bob and Anne Smith lived in the tragic consequences of
active alcoholism and in the remarkable spiritual world of recovery in the very rooms where
you now stand. Each room contains unique and memorable artifacts that can inspire and touch
you with their simplicity, homeliness, and spiritual significance.
Everything in the home is nearly as it was when Dr. Bob and Anne Smith lived there. It is
easy to imagine them talking, sharing, laughing and crying together. It is equally easy to
envision Dr. Bob and Bill Wilson deep in conversation as they shared their experience,
strength and hope.
Experiencing Dr. Bob's Home is not something easily described; you simply must come here and
discover it for yourself. Only then will you know. Only then will you realize that you
have finally come home.
